How to share a Sirepo simulation via URL

Remy Poore edited this page Jul 22, 2020 · 2 revisions

Once you have created a simulation in Sirepo, you can share it with anyone. Collaboration—with colleagues, students, or others—is made easy with URL sharing capabilities.

Take the Sirepo/OPAL example simulation called LCLS Gun. You can share a copy of this simulation via URL by clicking on the link icon next to the simulation name in the top bar. (Pictured below in a red circle.)

This brings up a popup with the URL in plain text.

You can copy it and send it to whomever you choose. (To access this link, or any Sirepo simulation, the user will need to sign up for an account.)

This link (and any URL sharing with Sirepo) will take the recipient to a copy of the simulation in their own Sirepo workspace, not to the exact simulation you're currently working on.

This means there’s no need to worry about anyone messing up your parameters or making unauthorized edits.

It’s important to note, however, that whoever has the link will have access to a copy of the simulation. Should you wish to “deactivate” a sharing URL, simply make a duplicate copy of your simulation and then delete the original simulation. The URL you shared will no longer be valid.
