Global Theme Options

Christopher Jones edited this page Jun 17, 2020 · 5 revisions

There are a number of global options on the website (elements that appear on multiple pages) that are controlled by the "theme options" section in WordPress.

You can access this at: https://arts.vcu.edu/cms/wp-admin/admin.php?page=acf-options-theme-options

Or by clicking the “Theme options” ribbon in the back end of WordPress.

Note: only in rare circumstances would these be changed.

Degrees Options

This section governs global fields on our degree pages, including our AFO information block.

Social Links

This section governs the links to our public-facing social media accounts for the school.

Alert

This section is used to manage the alert banner on the website. The alert banner will appear on every page and cannot be page specific.

As a practice VCUarts should make the text in this banner match the alert banner on the main VCU website (vcu.edu) whenever possible.

The alert color is an important distinction and falls into three categories:

  • Blue (planned closing or ongoing updates)
    • Examples: COVID-19 updates, planned winter break closure.
  • Yellow (unplanned closing, no danger to the community)
    • Example: Unexpected power outage to a VCUarts building.
  • Red (campus alert, danger to community)
    • Example: A gas leak is reported on campus and police have advised to keep the area clear.

404 page

This section is used to create content for the default 404 (broken link) page. We include links to common resources on this page and a link to submit a ticket to the web team to troubleshoot broken links that may lead to this page. As part of the new website launch, we have been tracking 404 alerts and setting up redirects to troubleshoot any dead links found online.
