Content Type: News
Voice
VCUarts news articles should be written in an authentic, journalistic voice that represents the experience of the students, faculty, staff and alumni featured in the story.
Marketing-style language should be limited to blog posts that are written expressly for that purpose; for example, an admissions blog post that lists the reasons a prospective student should choose VCUarts. Marketing content will not appear in the VCUarts news feed, and will need to be distributed through other mechanisms, such as direct marketing emails, e-newsletters and social media posts.
Proofreading
All copy should be written in AP style, and follow the VCUarts editorial style guide. The communications office is available for proofreading support as needed, but content editors are not required to send stories for approval before posting.
Distribution
The VCUarts homepage and main news feed are curated by the communications office. While we regularly review unit-created content, if you have a story that you would like to bring to our attention for further distribution, please contact the communications office.
Images and media
All blog posts and news articles require a high-quality lead image. See our guide to image selection and editing for more information. If you do not have an appropriate image, please contact the communications office for assistance finding images in our photo library.
Available Blocks
The news content type shares all of the blocks available in the "Pattern Page" content type. For detailed specs and requirements for each block, please consult the pattern page guide.
