Installing MAIDENS on Windows

MAIDENS is an unsigned application. For this reason, when you download and run the MAIDENS installer (install-maidens-x.y.z.exe) from the internet, Windows 10/11 may display a message saying, "Windows protected your PC". This is due to the SmartScreen filter, a security feature in Windows 10/11. Here's how you can bypass this restriction for the MAIDENS installer and its main executable (MAIDENS.exe):

Method 1: Allow the MAIDENS Application Individually

This method is recommended as it only unblocks one specific application that you trust, leaving your security settings in place.

  1. Locate the downloaded install-maidens-x.y.z.exe file in your system.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Properties.
  3. Navigate to the General tab.
  4. In the Security section at the bottom, you'll find an Unblock checkbox. Check this box.
  5. Click OK to save the changes.

After installing MAIDENS, locate the MAIDENS.exe file in the installation directory (the path you chose during installation). Repeat the same steps as above to unblock this file.

Method 2: Disable SmartScreen Entirely

If you prefer, you can also disable the SmartScreen filter entirely. However, this is not recommended as it reduces the overall security of your system. If you still wish to proceed, here are the steps:

  1. Click on the Start button and open Settings.
  2. Navigate to Update and Security.
  3. Go to the Windows Security section.
  4. Click on App & browser control.
  5. Under the Reputation-based protection heading, click on Reputation-based protection settings.
  6. Turn off the Check apps and files setting by moving the toggle to the Off position.

Remember, this method disables the SmartScreen filter for all applications, potentially exposing your system to risks.
