Portable Edition
Starting with v0.11, Beeftext is also available in a Portable Edition. This variant — mainly aimed at power users — is provided in a ZIP archive. Once extracted, the Beeftext executable found in the newly created folder can be launched directly.
All data files generated by Beeftext (the settings, the combo list file, and the debug log) are stored in the Data subfolder. The Portable Edition makes absolutely no change to the system components that are modified by the installer-based version (namely the user's application data folder and the Windows Registry).
Note: The Portable Edition is intended to be used by power users, for instance, a system administrator who wants to use Beeftext on multiple computers by using a USB stick or a shared network drive. Regular users are encouraged to use the standard installer-based version.
The following features of the standard version of Beeftext are not available in the Portable Edition.
- The application cannot be set to automatically start when the user logs in.
- The combo list folder cannot be customized.
- The application cannot be automatically updated. Update notifications can still be activated, but the only option offered in the new version notification dialog is the 'Download Page' page button that opens the default web browser and browses the GitHub download page for the new release.
