Interaxon License

By downloading and using this template you agree to abide by Interaxon’s Non-Commercial Development Agreement. Their SDK, their rules.

If you have read other software usage agreements, you’ll find most of it is quite standard. If you make free neurogames, you should not have to worry too much about it. Don’t be evil, though.

But here’s a heads-up if you’re too lazy to do your due diligence:

Commercial Neurogame Exploitation

If you want to sell a neurogame build you made with this template, you must contact [email protected] to negotiate a Commercial Agreement. At which point, I recommend you talk to an accountant, because you will be sending reports and paying licensing fees.

The Commercial Agreement stipulations are listed in the very first paragraph of the Interaxon Non-Commercial Development Agreement. The stipulations are then spelled out in the next sections. Get a lawyer to read the agreement if legalese makes you nervous.

This is irrelevant if you don’t plan to get money from making this neurogame. You can certainly distribute neurogame builds for free.

Free Neurogame Distribution

If you make a neurogame with this template, you can distribute it for free on any medium you want. Interaxon may ask about how many copies have been distributed, so try to use a platform that keeps track of downloads.

Make sure you don’t misuse the Muse headband or the data you get from it. Don’t say nasty stuff about the Muse or Interaxon. Aaaand, that’s mostly it for your legal responsibilities.

If you wanna be nice, send me a link or a copy of your game. I wanna play too!

Distribution of this Template

tldr; If you give this template to other people without asking, you’re the Diego now. You will have to make sure these other people understand the licenses they are agreeing to and you have to keep track of who has this template in case Interaxon asks.

Basically, I negotiated a Distribution Agreement with Interaxon. The important thing is that they want to know who is using this template, thus the Private GitHub repo. Yes, the info you submit on the form will be shared with Interaxon Inc.

As for me, I am giving this template away in exchange for literal exposure and your “name” (see previous sentence). I am also allowing contributions to the template as a Kinda-Open Source project under a Creative Commons License: Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International.

HOWEVER, the Interaxon SDK, the code connecting the Muse headset to Unity, is private intellectual property and subject to Interaxon’s Non-Commercial Development Agreement.

If you want to do your own template and distribute it under your own terms, you must contact [email protected] to negotiate your own custom distributor’s license, just like I did. Otherwise, the tldr; above applies implicitly.
