Neurogame Template Documentation

V.1.1 (February 2025)

Hello! If you are reading these lines, you have arrived to the documentation written by Diego Saldívar for the publicly available Neurogame Template. This template was designed to easily make neurogames in Unity using a Muse 2 headset used on an Android device.

The content produced by the aforementioned author is released under a Creative Commons License: Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International.

Any other illustrative and factual content credited to external authors is presented for educational purposes under a Fair Use doctrine.

Basically, do as you please but do not sell copies of the content herein presented. It’s free of charge.

About this Documentation

This Wiki serves as a reference not only for the Neurogame Template, but also as a crash course for any game developer who would like to try their hand at neurogames but is nervous about the neurology part of it.

You should be nervous, but not because it’s hard or complicated, I have taken care of that part. With great power comes great responsibility, you see. If you check the Index on the sidebar, you’ll find that half of this documentation deals with laws and science. The other half is the documentation on the template. I am a bit of a lawful-good kind of person. Which is why the first chapter is about the legal framework of this template. You may not need to care about it when you first open the project but, do remember to check again if you plan to make money out of your work. You must pay a commercial license to Interaxon if you plan to sell a neurogame that uses this template.

Oh, also, I’d like to introduce the concept of neurorights for the neurogaming market. This may sound a bit dry and lofty but still, I implore you to proactively protect neurogamers’ privacy. Don’t be evil, please.

Having said that, if you have no idea how the brain works, I recommend you check the chapter on Neuroscience for Beginners. It’s going to make your neurogaming career much easier. No, we can’t read minds yet… at least, not with the Muse 2.

Thanks for reading this foreword. I am aware it’s the least exciting part of the documentation…
