Including PB Sandwich Into Your Theme
Recommend PB Sandwich in your theme
If you are a theme author and you find PB Sandwich awesome, or maybe you have extended the functionality of PB Sandwich in your theme code, you may want to include the plugin directly into your theme.
Do NOT include the plugin files directly into your theme/plugin. I can't emphasize this enough, if you include the files directly in your theme, then you lose the ability for plugin security, bug and feature updates!
The better way is to add a prompt in your theme that tells the user to install and activate PB Sandwich. One of the best ways to do this is using Thomas Griffin's TGM Plugin Activation script.
Here's how..
Create a new file in your theme/plugin at inc/class-tgm-plugin-activation.php
, copy and paste TGM's class-tgm-plugin-activation.php
code in that.
Afterwards, include the script in your functions.php
or main plugin file:
require_once( 'inc/class-tgm-plugin-activation.php' );
All that's left to do is to tell TGM to recommend or require PB Sandwich in the admin. You can do this with TGM's tgmpa_register
action hook:
add_action( 'tgmpa_register', 'recommend_sandwich' );
function recommend_sandwich() {
$plugins = array(
array(
'name' => 'Page Builder Sandwich',
'slug' => 'page-builder-sandwich',
'required' => false,
),
);
/**
* Array of configuration settings. Amend each line as needed.
* If you want the default strings to be available under your own theme domain,
* leave the strings uncommented.
* Some of the strings are added into a sprintf, so see the comments at the
* end of each line for what each argument will be.
*/
$config = array(
'default_path' => '', // Default absolute path to pre-packaged plugins.
'menu' => 'tgmpa-install-plugins', // Menu slug.
'has_notices' => true, // Show admin notices or not.
'dismissable' => true, // If false, a user cannot dismiss the nag message.
'dismiss_msg' => '', // If 'dismissable' is false, this message will be output at top of nag.
'is_automatic' => false, // Automatically activate plugins after installation or not.
'message' => '', // Message to output right before the plugins table.
'strings' => array(

)
);
tgmpa( $plugins, $config );
}
It's a bit long, but the majority of the code above are standard TGM label strings. The most important part is specifying the slug page-builder-sandwich
.
After you put that code in, you can try deactivating and activating your theme, and you should be able to see the notice: This theme recommends the following plugin: Page Builder Sandwich.
