The occurrence of this OHG gloss in the MS Wolfenbüttel, HAB, 50 Weiss. has been recorded in Schwarz 1977, p. 31. See the entry 'amban, st. m.' in the digital Althochdeutsches Wörterbuch, digitalisierte Fassung bereitgestellt durch die Sächsische Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Leipzig (accessed 09.11.2024). 'amban' occurs also in MS Köln 200, f. 10v and in MS München, BSB, Clm 280a, f. 9r. Otfrid's use of 'amban' is possibly one of the oldest occurences of this term, since other attestations date mostly back to the 11th c. according to the Althochdeutsches Wörterbuch.
