  1. Agenda Item: SC 38 Multi-cloud management

There is ongoing standardization activities starting up in SC 38 around: "Cloud computing – Multi-cloud management – Part 1: Overview and use cases" (ISO/IEC TR 10822-1)

Scope: "This document builds on ISO/IEC 22123-3 and ISO/IEC 5140, and provides an overview of management challenges and objectives encountered in multi-cloud deployments along with management activities that can be undertaken to address the management challenges and objectives. Additionally, this document provides use cases with user and functional views to further explain the multi-cloud management challenges and activities."

Started work on a technical report in WG 5, with a target DTR of Sep 2024.

Eric will post final 22123-1 text for TWG review.

Eric will also post FDIS text for 22123-2 and 22123-3 for TWG review.

There also is a PWI for "Information technology – Cloud computing and distributed platforms – Customer business continuity and resilience", also in WG 5.

Opportunity for SNIA to submit a preliminary work item to contribute content around Data Storage as a Service.

There are some potential areas where concepts discussed in the Multi-cloud white paper may need to be standardized.

Changes to terms:

  • Two or more public clouds - Multi-cloud
  • Mixture of public and private clouds - Hybrid cloud
  • When focusing on the boundary between clouds - Inter-cloud

Our use of "multi-cloud" is still consistent with these updated definitions, so no updates will be required on our side.
