Batteries

imgur

Sterling Systems' batteries are quite overpowered. They assume that by the time kerbal society can send any interstellar crewed vessel they have done quite well to develop a battery chemistry with currently unreal specific energy and respectable specific power. The point of this battery suite is to defeat the need to either spam stock-ish flat battery platters or place procedural batteries.

They come in 8 sizes in ascending order: Luggage, KIS Cube, 1.25m, Mk2, 2.5m, 3.75m, 5m. Except for the Luggage and Cube they have height variants, allowing even more capacity.

Examples of capacity:

Item Profile Mass Amount
Sterling Super Battery Luggage 0.019 t 1920 EC
Sterling Super Battery Cube 0.084 t 8440 EC
Sterling Super Battery 1.25m 0.481 t 48080 EC
Sterling Super Battery Mk2 0.74 t 74000 EC
Sterling Super Battery 2.5m 2.864 t 286400 EC
Sterling Super Battery 3.75m 9.114 t 911400 EC
Sterling Super Battery 5m 20.949 t 2094900 EC
Stock Z-100 srf 0.005 t 100 EC
Stock Z-200 0.625m 0.01 t 200 EC
Stock Z-1k 1.25m 0.05 t 1000 EC
Stock Z-4K 2.5m 0.2 t 4000 EC

Nuclear Electric

Sterling Systems provides these as a solution to intermediate (and somewhat exotic) RTG and for the same use cases as with the advanced RTGs and the KerboPower reactor inthe Near Future Electrical mod. These are respectively, a Subcritical Multiplier and a KRUSTY. Both are less than 1.25m wide and are for very small applications.

Item Profile Dry Mass Power Stoppable¹ Fueled²
Sterling SCM 0.625m 1.1 t 27 EC/s No Yes
Sterling KLUSTR 1.15m³ 1.44 t 13.5 EC/s Yes Yes
Stock RTG < 0.625m 0.08 t 0.75 EC/s No No

Notes

  • [1] If no, it uses the generator module like the stock RTG.
  • [2] Does it hold and require a resource in order to provide power?
  • [3] Allows it to fit inside a fairing or service bay without clipping and Z-fighting with it.
