Summary

Features "Removes the rude awakening achievement"

Purpose of change

The rude awakening achievement has been a thorn in my side for as long as I can remember it existing. I hate it! Trying to get it is often a massive pain resulting in many rerolls. To go into the specifics of why I hate it conceptually:

  1. It is the only achievement you can "fail" of all them.
  2. It is very luck based, so results in a lot of rerolls to survive it or find a suitable target.
  3. It is actually impossible in many starting scenarios and locations. (so discouraging them)
  4. It encourages the player to sprint at the start to look for zombies or do other irrational things like run into a hoard.
  5. It often takes too long to kill whatever it is you found to do the achievement, even if just by a minute or two.
  6. Discourages several playstyles such as starting with weak characters, using stealth, and pacifist conducts.

Sometimes I just say "screw it" and start buffing my starting skills, but then I miss out on developing those while playing.

Describe the solution

Trash it.

Describe alternatives you've considered

A few more minutes to fulfill the deadline could improve a lot of my complaints. Particularly if you have to resort to hunting something down. But it still remains impossible in several scenarios. I would rather it just be gone altogether.

Testing

After removing it from the json it no longer shows up on the list of achievements.

Not all achievements need to be completable with all characters and all starts. There are already many other achievements which are mutually exclusive (e.g. all the mutation threshold ones).

I find your reasoning to be very weak. The achievement is working as intended, as an achievement. If it bothers you personally, my recommendation is to disable achievements or mod it out.

Achievements aren't a high score list they are interesting things you have done. They are attached to the world and not only the character. That's how they can be tied to metaprogression which is an option to turn off and on.
