I used a Fedora 23 Ardour package, so I did not get Harvid or other tools included, as explained in http://manual.ardour.org/video-timeline/setup/

Why is it not included in Ardour???

Because video codecs are patent encumbered and generally non-free.
It's left to the end-user to get a ffmpeg/video-server that can de/encode codecs that s/he has a license for.

I don't see the point of adding distribution specific package names to the README. It's up to distro packagers to sort this out depending on the distribution. I am however open to accept complete packaging meta-data to the project itself (ie. a rpm .spec file) if that helps downstream packagers.

Yes, my initial question was not related to Ardour itself, I edited it, but you have been quicker.
My proposal would have just add two lines and can save a little time. It is an info that I found on some Readme sometimes, but I understand your point.
I guess I should get in touch with the Fedora packagers. That may take time.
