Bryce (4th year PhD student) received his MS in Bioinformatics and BS in Computer Science + Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As an undergraduate, he worked at Dow Agrosciences in both the computational biology and cheminformatics groups. His projects included developing software for phylogeny analysis and creating models for compound activity prediction. During his Master’s program, Bryce worked in a biochemistry lab developing software for genome mining as well as a on research project for creating bit-wise algorithms for the C++ STL. One of his main interests is casting biological and chemical problems into theoretical computer science questions.

Eddy (3rd year PhD student) obtained a B.S. degree with Honors in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics from North Carolina State University. Before she entered the journey of computer science, she obtained a B.S. degree in Preventive Medicine from the Southwest Medical University in China and spent a year working as a chronic disease analyst at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Zigong city. During her study at NCSU, Eddy did research in multi-agent reinforcement learning in social computing. Her primary research interests are in the area of computational biology with a focus on microbial community analysis and applications of deep learning in heterogeneous multi-omics data analysis. Outside the lab, Eddy dedicates her life to rock climbing and she believes the philosophy of solving a climbing puzzle harmonizes with the research activities of a computer scientist.

Ryan (1st-year PhD student), obtained his BS in Computer Science from Case Western Reserve University. During his undergraduate studies, he worked with Dr. Treangen on large-scale wastewater analyses and targeted metagenomic sequencing methods. He also spent six months in Vigo, Spain, working in Dr. David Posada’s lab, focusing on gut-virome biomarkers in colorectal cancer. Additionally, he interned at Intellia Therapeutics for a summer, where he contributed to developing machine learning methods for CRISPR Cas-9 guide design. Ryan's current research interests center around comprehending the global virosphere through viral genomic analyses.
