# Motivation
The digitalization of science is moving ever forward, and requires a specialized breed of people that
specialize into the interface between science and digital tools.
We have identified the RSE as this particular person equipped with the values and skills we have outlined in [previous pub].
We argue that the current opportunistic approach is not sufficient to create the required number of RSEs.
This requires that specialized centers exist that focus solely on RSE graduates. Our previous publication has already given a hint with a Master program that could follow up on a STEM Bachelor.
There are several beneficiaries that would benefit from having this kind of graduation path.
First would be the to-be established RSE groups, whose integration in the academic system is detailed in another publication. Libraries who want to strengthen their digital services together with RDM.
HPC Compute centers can benefit from graduates that cover the spectrum from HPC-RSE till Community support RSEs. Even outside of traditional academia there are beneficiaries in government
organisations that perform their own research(e.g. PTB, RKI).
Universities in particular could benefit from proper graduates, to offer services in their RSE-related groups that are competitive with other universities. It would also be easier
for the departments themselves to find suitable candidates for filling an embedded-RSE position.

Offering a dedicated RSE graduation program is also an opportunity for a university
to showcase its interdisciplinarity. RSE are very often required to work with a diverse
set of domain scientitsts. Therefore establishing such a course requires a great deal
of interdisciplinary synchronization that could result in a campus-wide network.
