I was actually wondering if I'd been triggering them but GitHub Actions but it seems to be disabled again.

I saw some new commits on the main branch so looked into it. Seems to changes to this binary file. So unsure?

I've tried downloading it and reading it into R. This is our version:

R -e 'readRDS("depends.Rds")' > depends.txt

depends.txt

Seems to be a list of R package dependencies. What this repo is also an R package?!

OK think I've figured this out, they have "cron" job that runs via GitHub actions. I guess it generates these commits on a regular schedule.
