Changing the translation of "Chinese" from "Cina" to "Tionghoa". Although "Cina" is colloquially more popular (my first consideration), the word is now considered sensitive due to local racial issues (the Indonesian word for "Chinese" and "China" is the same), if it is spoken by Indonesians of non-chinese-descents. The officials are urging formal texts to use "Tionghoa" instead, although not widely used colloquially. |
