PEP ideas

In this page I plan to list all PEP ideas that I encountered while developing various python libraries. Each idea is then detailed in the issues page for discussion.

from getversion

• an api to get the version of anything reliably

• a better functools (more signature-preserving, and with more features such as edition)

from decopatch

• a way to know if a frame is a decorator call

• More generally, a better way to handle decorators in the python language could be good (see this discussion)

from mini-lambda

• more user-friendly lambda functions

from fprules

• Extend the glob tooling to create glob-based rules, similar to "file pattern rules" in make

from pyfields

• ability to override __slots__ with custom descriptors, especially non-data

• set-only descriptors (fast-get descriptors)

• possible bug with super() in combination with descriptor

• (and from pyfields) : new InvalidCallError or InvalidArgsError subtype of TypeError to favour duck-typing compliant callbacks usage pattern ; and/or more robust signature inspection tools
