We’re happy to announce that an beta version of Awami Nastaliq is now available for testing.

Five fonts from this typeface family are included in this beta release:

  • Awami Nastaliq Regular
  • Awami Nastaliq Medium
  • Awami Nastaliq SemiBold
  • Awami Nastaliq Bold
  • Awami Nastaliq ExtraBold

The full range of weights is accessed in different ways depending on the application. See the FAQ for details.

Both desktop and web fonts are provided in a single, all-platforms package below.

Providing Feedback

We would like to receive all feedback on this version by August 31, 2022. Email Sharon with your feedback as you find issues. Do not wait to combine all your feedback in one email.

Specifically we are interested in any collisions you see in the weights other than Regular.

Changes since the alpha

  • Renamed Book weight to Medium and Book Bold weight to ExtraBold
  • Added SemiBold weight
  • Added two characters:
    • U+08C8 ARABIC LETTER GRAF
    • U+069B ARABIC LETTER SEEN WITH THREE DOTS BELOW
  • Modified rules for generating Allah ligature
  • Fixed a bug affecting the right margin
  • Fixed a problem with the behavior of the yeh with hamza
  • Added a short version of the final sad
  • Added a special form of khah+zabar+meem+jeem+heh-doachashmee to avoid excessive height
  • Various improvements to bold forms and beh forms
  • Collision fixes
  • Removed "Small nuqtas" feature

Known issues

Ligatures such as bismillah, alayhi as-salaam, etc. do not currently have special bold forms. Please let us know if you see a need for these.
