Challenge 1: “Adopt Information”

Background

After arriving to Sweden, newcomers go through a very long process in which they need to be in contact with different authorities and public agencies; an exhaustive list of things to do, sometimes with strict deadlines. It becomes easy in such situations, and with the quantity of information received, to forget about deadlines, to be confused and to lose a track of what needs to be done and in which priority.

In addition to that, the information newcomers get at their arrival changes over time without notifying them. Which makes the information they are aware of sometimes outdated or non-valid.

It is hence important to make the information digitial, and having a way to provide asylum seekers with relevant information, notify them on important deadlines and make the information clear and readable. This will help the asylum seeking process be more efficient.

Problems

  • A lot of work is expected from newly arrived people right after their arrival. Many organisations to contact. A lot of paperwork is expected from them.
  • Most of the information they receive in the first week is of a crucial importance. However it might be neglected or forgotten by very overwhelmed asylum-seekers.
  • Due to the physical and emotional state that asylum-seekers are in, it is to lose track of what needs to be done for them to be established in Sweden.

Key Factors

  • Empowerment.
  • Make asylum seekers more comfortable and more relaxed regarding the administrative they need to go through.
  • Digital information and updated source of information.

Consideration

  • Personal meeting places are important for asylum seekers to have live chat with fellow asylum seekers and also experts that can help them in the proceedings.
  • Information should be updated.
  • Information in different languages.
  • Reminders to asylum seekers have to be explained and the importance of information should be shown. Something urgent should be sent to an asylum seeker as such.

Aim

  • To Make it easier for newcomers to remember what needs to be done in the next step of their process.

Key Actors

  • Authorities that have regular contact with asylum seekers

Success Measurement

  • Shortest asylum seeking process and easier establishment of newcomers in Sweden. This can be measured by looking at the number of helped asylum seeker.
