I don't see why we need to publish these as we currently do not:

  • make board meeting agendas public
  • publish meeting minutes & decisions

These documents currently reside in a secret folder, and have been kept secret for a reason. Before publishing, I'd like to see reasons for now making them public & the impact that has on related documents.

I realize this is part of the solution to issue "#156 Open finance of the foundation", but I think this is not the best way forward. We should look holistically at how we publish board documentation, and separately how we publish financial information (if the annual report is not enough).

The reasoning behind this was:

  • Monthly financial updates are prepared for the board of directors
  • We strive towards becoming an open organisation
  • Our financial information is not only useful for the board, but may be of interest to members, staff, and other community members (as per  #156)

So the thinking was that financial updates could be isolated, and separated out from the board meeting process

This would mean:

  • Every month there is an open financial update for the wider community, irrespective of the board process (ie board meetings may be more or less regular than monthly)
  • When there is a board meeting, these financial updates can be included as part of the 'briefing pack' (along with agenda, minutes, etc)

This allows us to already move ahead with publishing our monthly financial updates. The board process can then be reworked separately.

Does this answer your questions, @lscheske?

If so, @demkodo would it make sense to:

  • rename this issue to 'include financial updates'
  • remove 'board' from the title of the documents
  • not housing this in 'activities/board-support' but perhaps under 'organization/financial-updates' or 'organization/financials'(?)

Obviously both the 'opening our finances' track and 'board process' track can be iterated on and further improved, but I don't really see a blocker in starting with monthly updates as they are now. But perhaps I'm missing something.

The same discussion that sparked this PR also led to this Publiccode.net issue.

@ElenaFdR what do you recommend if we proceed with moving the finance updates from board to organization, as per Claus' 3rd bullet: "not housing this in 'activities/board-support' but perhaps under 'organization/financial-updates' or 'organization/financials'(?)"
Probably the former and then also making sure to link to the operations handbook finance section.

Travis keeps getting stuck and I'm gonna let it go for now. Maadix's machine is up and running again and a reboot did not resolve this. Will reboot again. This is what Travis threw at me:

If the links resolve when going there manually with a web browser we don't need to feel blocked by Travis. It is only the GitHub actions that are required to pass.
