About the PR

  • Some slight changes to the interior arrangement of the NFSD HQ POI thing. New vents/firelocks plugged in.
  • Rebuilds the medical bay with a basic equipment setup.
  • Removes the ATM space to make room for a few additional beds. ATM moved to the lobby.
  • All should be locked behind the same medical door present on the Empress.
  • Replaces empty Brigmed locker with a Brigmed locker that has equipment in it. To remove the need to pull an Empress.

Why / Balance

  • Recent discussion regarding Brigmeds relying on an Empress being pulled, more or less, and how that's not universally desirable resulted in some of those tools being added to their clubhouse.
  • ATM moved to lobby after discussing the matter with a number of sheriffs who urged that it was not only fine but be appreciated. I think they know better than I do.
  • Nobody could explain why the brigmed locker was empty. Only that they needed to pull the ship we're trying to avoid needing to pull to get their stuff. So.

How to test

Visit the NFSD HQ. Check security access. Check tiling. Check to make sure room is functional and accessible.

Sorely needed so that the Brigmedic isn't dependant on a capital ship to be effective. No other NFSD role has its playstyle effected by the departments strategy as the briggie, this is a great change.

I think incentivizing station gameplay is backwards and not in the spirit of Frontier.

Regardless, for constructive criticism, please consider the following:

  • Add a light blue border on the floor around the edge of the room
  • I suggest moving the bottom corner bed one tile to the left, and put the medical fab where the bed USED to be in the corner of the room, so the doorway doesn't feel so cramped
  • Put a plant where the fab used to be (beside the reinforced table)
  • Exchange the suit locker for a Brigmedic Locker
  • Space out the floor vent things, having all three together looks.. odd. (Perhaps one under the sink, and one under/beside the bottom table?
  • You might be able to remove a light by getting rid of the door and bottom one, and putting a new one on the wall in between the East windows, which will make the space feel less cluttered
  • This is just a personal nitpick, but having rooms APC be above the sink is uh.. lol

Meanwhile frontier doesn't want to give brigmedics their own ship because they might just disappear and do their own stuff, and there is not always enough crew to warrant a capital class ship. I think a lab on NFSDO would work, since the brigmed can just make chems and then take a hospitaller and get to the other NFSD ships, or prep chems and take them with them, without having to rely on the empress/wasp.

Placed a vent on the waste system. Whupsiedoodle.

For this hot take I'm stealing Ansome's big red request denied rubber stamp and will proceed to enjoy myself.

  1. NFSD HQ isn't room border heavy. Nor was the original room. Request denied. big red rubber stamp
  2. I know after I've been shot one thing I hope the doc does is lean over me to feed sheets of glass into the big loud fabricator. Also a fabricator trapped between beds? In this economy? Request denied. big red rubber stamp
  3. Plants are the source of illness. Request denied. big red rubber stamp
  4. Read the PR for the reasons for the locker. Request denied. big red rubber stamp
  5. Vents already moved as I double vented because I'm a clown. Picture updated. I don't feel like I need to hide these away for aesthetics. Might as well keep them in the open to put an eye on them. Request denied. big red rubber stamp
  6. Image updated. Shifted the walls location while working on the vents. Two lights is gloomy. Request denied. big red rubber stamp
  7. I shifted the APC to another wall in the vent rebuild as I wanted to put a chem locker there. Which is a shame because an APC above a sink provides you with some light reading. While this isn't exactly a request denied I don't want to break my streak. Request denied. big red rubber stamp

Ah actually one comment that might be a bit out there @dustylens, could you stick one of the cream NFSD duffles in the suitlocker or on a table? Just thinking for the briggies QOL they are probably going to stick their chem jugs in one anyway, and the NFSD vending machine only has two brigmedic-themed duffles in stock.

I could add one, yes.

Though I would prefer that clothing vendors simply be unlimited. We live in strange times.

Adds requested duffel bag. Because I am a softie.

Or, and hear me out on this. We give the Brigmedics a ship that can do this, and that mobile medbay can move to where it's needed. :)

This is intended to be a supplement to the NFSD as a whole. If you wish to advocate for NFSD medical ships I would take that to a different area. You wont gain much traction for that here I'm afraid. I have absolutely no stake in the argument that the NFSD cannot be trusted to have a medical ship because the medics will all go rogue or whatever that chat is.

Let me refer you to #2557 for reasons why that isn't going to happen. Apparently maintainers do not want that since brigmeds should stay either on NFSDO or near NFSD, and not disappear and do their own stuff and stealing jobs from actual doctors.

I don't see the issue if a brigmedic allowed to make some meds on the POI then take them when going with the crew.

Game design choice seems fine, going to leave this up to maptainers to look at.

I like what I see. I'll give a proper review soon.

I think this concept is good for the quality of life of Brig medics. But one thing I'm going to be checking in the review is the access permissions for the door. I don't want just any officers to have access to that room.

I like this change, brigmedic makes more sense with the department added.
Give NFSD what they need for heavy fights. 👍🏼
