Github has become the standard way of distributing open source software. Some people may even think git is github. It's owned by Microsoft, which has it's own benefits, like this. Maybe this couldn't have happened, if youtube-dl wasn't hosted by a large company. But nonetheless, I still think using other git project hosting sites can't hurt. Mirror your projects, advertise your links.
