Admin Panel for Express

Built in support for mysql but can be extended easily to other databases

Quick setup

1. clone and cd to first level directory
2. install required packages using npm

npm install

3. set up database credentials in external/config/main
4. run admin server

npm start

5. Browse to http://localhost: <serverPort in config file (default: 5000)>/

To re generate configuration file for database at any time

node configure.js

Insert/delete/update in table

Add button for insert operation is shown if insert_rows flag is set for table. Delete button is shown on double clicking a row if delete_rows flag is set for the table. To edit values in a row double click on the row. Editable fields will be highlighted. Date/Time picker (http://t1m0n.name/air-datepicker/docs/) opens up for fields having type="unixtimestamp", true/false dropdown is provided for fields with type="boolean". If you are storing a timestamp field as int or bigint or equivalent number type, just rename its type to unixtimestamp in configuration file(external/config/db_config.js) generated for your database. Similarly boolean equivalent fields may be re-named as boolean to convert values into equivalent javascript boolean values. Boolean of a value is automatically calculated as:

boolean_of_val = !(!val || val === 'false')

It should be noted that boolean values are passed to database as true/false when being saved. Conversion if needed can be done through external/scripts/table/main.js.
type can also be set using script external/scripts/config/main.js.

Restricting Access and updates to database

Configuration file can be found under external/config/ directory. Place your databse credentials in external/config/main.js. Database configuration is written to db_config.js under same directory when you first run server or when first configuration file is generated as explained above. Set appropriate flags on table and columns in db_config.js.
Supported flags at table level are:

• accessible - true/false to show and enable or hide and disable table
• insert_rows - true to allow inserting new rows, false to disallow
• update_rows - true to allow update on rows, false to disallow
• delete_rows - true to allow deleting rows, false to disallow

At column level supported flags are:

• accessible - true/false to show and enable or hide and disable column
• update - true to allow updating colum, false to disallow
• insert - true to allow setting colum value during insert, false to disallow

External scripts can be placed in external/scripts/ directory to allow data manipulation during generation of configuration file or during database operations like select or fetch, update, insert and delete
