Now that I've got some time I took #1451 and did some stuff on GIMP and (automatically!) traced it with Inkscape to produce imo a serviceable svg.

Also with a PR I can finally upload the xcf used to create the bootsplash, like I said here it is based on this xcf @Thrilleratplay uploaded.

I hope none if this so far is problematic licence-wise (I'm suspicious though uninformed about the idea of taking something from a presumably proprietary AI generator and re-releasing it under a free licence)

Bing would really love to be cited with a date and the prompt leading to the generated image that was then modified ( and for which you would then be considered author by CC BY 4.0 which is compatible with GPL here) .

Will need to trace back that prompt and date and commit should reflect that. Unfortunately there is a bug in image creator for the moment not permitting me to go back with that information but will provide as soon as that bug is resolved.

@d-wid I love your work!

@tlaurion @d-wid yes, they do look good! Although for the AI-generated janus-head, I think the matrix-like background makes it too noisy. Out of those, I think background-plain-3.jpg or background-plain.jpg look best.

Background-binary-2 is my preference.

I feel the "matrix code" effect gives the logo some needed visual softness. The sharp white version being too harsh to blink onto the screen. Just my opinion, mind.

Smoothed out the bi/tricolour version of the bootsplash and I think it looks good with some vignette effect now.

Removed some of the shadow on the nose in the matrix binary-2 version. I think it's more readily recognisable as a pair of faces (or heads) that way.

Would it be an idea to also frame the QR-code in a matching colour frame of sorts? Might round it out a little.

For now I think something like this might be better, but you can play around with the xcf yourself if you want and see what sticks.

Seems weird, but the following seems sufficient.

@d-wid would be interested into making this go forward. In previous comments, I said I would prefer not having a lot of binaries in git, which means limiting inclusion/removal of binary content that is added/removed over time, which otherwise is kept in git history. I would go forward and squash those commits so only kept inclusions are part of git history, meaning that we would be co-author on your last commit here and some would follow as part of another PR based on this one.

By doing another PR based on this work, I would cite as best as I could bing you and thrilleratplay, move the bootsplash and logos under branding/heads and modify all coreboot configs to point to the symlink of currently chosen bootpslash.

Note that rebranding for boards would need to change symlink to point to re-branding bootsplash for board forks, which branding could either be put upstream or in downstream forks(preferred), which ideally should all be about rebranding anyway. Same would apply for people building locally. Changing symlink to point to desired bootsplash is all that should be done.

This would resolve #1468 at the same time.

I think binary-2 looks better with less/no shading on the nose, and plain-3 isn't pixellated anymore + gets vignette effect

Starting to think the vignette effect looks goond on the all-white version too

@d-wid please see #1506. I was wandering what is the purpose of the xcf file(4mb to be downloded by anyone downloading heads tree) and if you could take comments from #1506 to rename filename and properly credit previous authors in the present PR?

Squash of linuxboot#1502 + moving logo/bootsplash files under branding/Heads

- Move logos and bootsplashes from blobs to branding/Heads/
- Makefile: add support for BRAND_DIR which depends on BRAND_NAME which defaults to Heads if no branding
- Boards coreboot configs: change bootsplash directory to depend on BRAND_DIR (instead of BLOBS_DIR) in bootsplash enabled configs
- Branding/Heads/bootsplash-1024x768.jpg points to branding/Heads/d-wid-ThePlexus_coreboot-linuxboot-heads_background-plain_DonateQrCode.jpg
- xcf file deleted. Original still under linuxboot#1502 to reuse for modification without recompressing (blobs/heads.xcf)
- CREDITS file created to point to original authors, remixers (Open for details)
  - Thanks to: @d-wid for remixing Bing's AI generated Janus logo, @ThePlexus for Qubes Box concept and @Thrilleratplay for its matrix background
