Hello!

Remember to have fun!

Quickstart

To get started, try

make fork

and follow the instructions.

Purpose

The tools in this repository can be used to - create the *-kits to which your local infrastructure can push ebuilds, - change their default branches en masse or individually, - keep a fork up-to-date with upstream (e.g. in a cron job), - and delete forks that are no longer needed.

Using these tools, you can create a Macaroni Linux (https://github.com/macaroni-os) dev fork with public kits at Github that can be used to sync any Macaroni Linux system. Once a feature is stable, it is easy to upstream it with a kit-fixups mirror at Github.

Infrastructure requirements

You need a local infrastructure a la https://github.com/org-tekeli-borisp/ansible-funtoo. The repo container in the local infrastructure is referred to here as the library. This repository may not be very useful unless you have M.A.R.K. infrastructrue already prepared, so it’s a good idea to set that up first.

To use these tools: You need a Github account, and you need to set up github-cli to a working state. You should be able to create and delete a test repository in the location where you want to put your fork. The interesting commands are described in gh repo --help.

The sources (kit-fixups, and the so-called "sourced kits" like kde-kit-sources and friends) are not handled here. Currently, metatools does not have an easy way to mirror those, other than kit-fixups. Your local infrastructure already takes care of your mirror of upstream kit-fixups. The tools in this repository manage your downstream fork.

Updating a fork

Merging from upstream and pushing the changes to the fork

By default, both the master branch (next release) and the mark-testing branch will be managed.
