Windows 10 App Essentials 16.09.2
Hi everyone,
I'm delighted to announce the release of Windows 10 App Essentials 16.09.2. This is a huge release, in that it fixes issues with Cortana in listening mode and other goodies.
Important: Add-on 16.09.2 requires NVDA 2016.3 for optimal functionality, and this add-on will not run on Windows versions prior to Windows 7 service pack 1 in consideration for those who might install this add-on prior to upgrading to Windows 10.
Changelog:
- Fixed a long standing issue where NVDA kept announcing gibberish when you were talking to Cortana.
- In Windows Store, after checking for app updates, app names in list of apps to be updated are labeled correctly.
- Fixed an issue when pressing Control+NVDA+number row in Skype Preview where it did nothing or played error tones.
- When checking for updates in Settings/Update and security/Windows Update, update progress messages such as "downloading" are announced once instead of repeated as percentage changes.
Enjoy the new add-on release.

Dear current and prospective Windows 10 users,
Windows 10 App Essentials 16.09 is now available. This release brings improved support for search fields with suggestions, enhancements for Weather and Skype Preview apps and others. Also, a new contributor has joined the team.
Important: For best results, please use NVDA 2016.2.1 or later, or if using Anniversary Update (version 1607), please use NVDA 2016.3 or later. Also, support for Windows 10 RTM (Version 1507/build 10240) from this add-on will end on January 2017.
Changelog:
- Please welcome Derek Riemer (@derekriemer), a student from University of Colorado at Boulder and a contributor to NVDA to the development team.
- In certain search fields, suggestions will appear as you enter search terms. NVDA will now notify you via sound when suggestions appear. You can also use up and down arrow keys to move through suggestions. Examples of this enhancement include search field in Settings app. The next version will include braille messages for when suggestions appear.
- In Skype Preview app, reduced verbosity of chat messages, as well as ability to move navigator object to a chat item when Control+NVDA+number row is pressed just like Skype for Desktop.
- Weather app support has seen improvements, including recognition of tabs and ability to use up and down arrow keys to read forecast for each day (contributed by Derek Riemer).
