Did this one as a PR so you can take a look.
It works well, redirects to / with a next back to the proper page for a GET & logout and returns a message for POST. Same thing that Rick implemented for AWX. I added a setting to enable/disable it though and set it true when resource registry is in use. So that's the part I want to make sure you agree with.
