Welcome to the Araneae wiki!
Project Araneae is focused on capturing and presenting relationships in unstructured data.
Araneae is the formal name for spiders. While not all spiders create webs, their webs are a distinguishing characteristic. We chose that name because our project is about creating a web of relationships across the data objects within our world, much like spiders create webs across objects in the real world. We hope to capture useful information that will help us navigate our body of knowledge more effectively.
We don't have subprojects yet, but our goal is to use a common naming scheme for relating them with each other. Here are some possible names to consider (from literature):
- From Charlotte's Web: Charlotte, Wilbur
- Tolkein: Shelob, Ungoliant
Another option would be to use an appropriate name from the characteristics of these spiders:
- Spinneret
- Silk
- stabilimentum one specific form of the central spider web
- chelicerae which terminate in the fangs of the spiders
Types of spiders as well:
- Loxosceles - which includes two of the three venomous spiders that can be serious threats to humans (brown recluse and Chilean recluse).
- Latrodectus - which includes the black widow spider (one of three that can be serious threats to humans).
- Tarantula - common name for various large, hairy spiders. Sometimes kept as pets! Some tarantulas can live for multiple decades.
There are over 46,000 types of spiders, so we shouldn't run out of names any time soon.
Project Goals describe the goals of the project. Architecture describes the project's architecture.
