To use MDiG to it's capacity, one needs to have some ability in using both the GRASS GIS and preferably . A good introduction is Grass 6 in a Nutshell. Specific tasks that are have been useful for researchers using MDiG are listed here:
- General information on importing maps - How to go about adding maps to the GRASS DB.
- Adding Regions - How to create a named region/window in GRASS.
- Adding lifestage files - How to import files associated with lifestage transitions into the GRASS DB.
- Importing ASCII Climex files into GRASS
- Importing global landcover tiles into GRASS
- Creating a new location for simulations
- Creating a movie from a series of population distribution maps overlaid on a background map, with the year of simulation printed on each.
