## Syllabus

During this Future Talk, we will explore three key questions: How do you identify your values? How do values exist in and support a community? How do values live in, and through, your work? Through the lens of the Distributed Design Platform, we will explore the idea of design based on values. First, we will discuss how the Platforms values (open, collaborative, regenerative, and ecosystemic) function in the Distributed Design community. You will then apply your own projects to the Distributed Design Platform Reflection Tree to better understand how values can support and inspire you in your design and creative processes. Lastly, we will brainstorm together about how you can design with values in your own projects.
Future Talks is a series of conversations with friends of ELISAVA and Fab Lab Barcelona, exploring the nature of emerging futures from the past to the present and beyond.

**Keywords: Distributes Design, design driven by values, design for impact**

### Learning Objectives
## Syllabus

- Understanding how design based on values functions in an existing community (the Distributed Design Platform)
- Reflecting on how values can provide a support structure for the design and creative practices
- Using the Distributed Design Platform Reflection Tree to identify key design questions
- Exploring how values can live in student’s own work
Research has shown that most of the job opportunities and future challenges that will arise in the next few years still don’t exist. Instead of seeing it as a threat, we want you to look at it as an opportunity. An opportunity to actively create your own path, your own vision and identity rather than passively wait for what is needed.

### Methodological Strategies
In MDEF we believe that learning should be driven by your motivations and not by our (the teachers) thoughts. We want you to be in control of your own development especially in a master program full of activities. We want you to plan a strategic turn for yourself. We will provide you with a variety of knowledge, skills and attitudes to compare yourself with.

- Group discussion and brainstorming
- Distributed Design Platform Reflection Tree
In this series of talks, critical reflection will help you to map your strengths and weaknesses in relation to the approach to design that the master is proposing. A series of presentations and visits to key professionals will make you aware about how your thinking, making, interests and values differ from others.

## Deliverables

- Students are asked to submit their individual reflection tree task on the Miro board.
- Students are required to respond to two questions (each with a minimum of two sentences and without a maximum length specified) on their MDEF websites.
- The first question is an open reflection on the Reflection Tree -- the tree is in its final iterations and we appreciate feedback on the tool itself
- The second question focuses on the key takeaways from the activity.
At the end of this trimester we ask you to update who you are and what makes you unique (identity) and your personal “vision” of your future as a professional. The Thesis Draft will include space to reflect on your Vision and Identity and how that evolved this term.
