The Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE), Version 1.4.10 (or newer) is REQUIRED to run SkyUI.

The Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) is RECOMMENDED for properly installing SkyUI.

If you like the Celtic icon theme, you get the latest icon set directly from the author at GreatClone Celtic Icons. (optional)

In case you have any problems or questions, please take a look at the Troubleshooting and FAQ sections at the bottom of this description page first.

SkyUI is mod that aims to improve Skyrim's User Interface by making it easier to use with mouse and keyboard, less wasteful of available screen space and nicer to look at.

We do all that while keeping true to the style of the original UI, so new and old components are integrated seamlessly.

It is not our goal to re-create the complete interface from scratch. Instead we try to identify and change areas that need improvement, while leaving the things that are already good alone.

Further general objectives and design concepts are:

Finding a good balance between 'dumbed down' and 'information overkill'.

Easy installation and setup by providing a user-friendly installer with the Nexus Mod Manager.

Great customization support by using a separate configuration file.

Blending features in as good as possible - players shouldn't feel reminded that they're using a mod.
Since improving the whole UI is a big undertaking, we release only single menus at a time as we make progress. The following sections give an overview of what's included so far, as well as what we plan to address next.

The player inventory has been changed from the original two-list-layout to a single big panel. Included features:

Icons to replace the text-based category column. Selectable from 3 different icon themes (curved, straight, Celtic).

Mini icons for each item type.

Smaller fonts, so more entries can be displayed at once.

Extra columns to include additional item information. Examples are weight and value in general, and damage or armor rating for specific categories.

Sortable columns to order items by a specific stat. Multi-state columns to sort by value/weight ratio, and to quickly quickly single out equipped, stolen, enchanted or poisoned items.

Additional status icons to flag stolen, enchanted and poisoned items.

Full-text search through the inventory.

Intuitive and efficient keyboard navigation, as well as support for controllers.

Support for exotic resolutions. Tested from 800x600 to 5760x2160.

Fully configurable column layout and text formatting.
A tab bar at the bottom of the item list is used to toggle between the player and vendor/container views.

The magic menu layout has been adapted to fit with the other new menus as well. The panel is now at the left side for a consistent look and feel.

Mini icons for each magic type make it easy to identify them in combined views, and new sorting options will prove especially useful for spellcasters:

Organize spells by skill level, school and spell cost.

Sort dragon shouts by level and recovery time.

List active effects by source and remaining time.
We recommend using the Nexus Mod Manager to install SkyUI. It will try not to interfere with any pre-installed font mods, and you'll be able to select the category icon theme you want to use from the installer.

Gopher made a video tutorial, describing the installation of SkyUI and all requirements in great detail:

Problem: There's a message on my screen, telling me that I'm missing the Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE). What do I have to do?

There are two things that can cause this: 1. You didn't install the Skyrim Script Extender (or you installed it incorrectly). Get it from here and follow the instructions there.

2. Everything was fine before, then Skyrim was patched to a new version and the message started appearing. This is because each new patch also requires an update of SKSE. So just you'll just have to wait until that is released, then get the new version and everything should be back to normal.

Problem: There are dollar signs ($) in front of all words in the main menu (and in lots of other places, too)!

This happens if you accidently removed Data/Interface/Translate_*.txt. The downloaded SkyUI archive contains an original version of that file in SkyUI Extras/Original Translates/. So just copy the file matching your language from there back to Data/Interface/.

Problem: I changed something in skyui.cfg, now it's not working anymore.

If you made a mistake in the config, SkyUI may stop working. In this case, just revert back to the original config from the downloaded SkyUI archive.

Question: Do you support older versions of the game?

No. SkyUI requires the Skyrim Script Extender to be fully functional, which in turn requires you to have the latest version of the game. If SKSE could not be detected, a warning message will be displayed. The purpose of this message is not harassment, but to warn users that SKSE was not installed correctly, and to avoid false bug reports that would otherwise result from this.

Question: How do I switch between tabs in the container/barter menu with a controller or the keyboard?

Controller: BACK button Keyboard: Left ALT key

Question: What's the meaning of the small icons after the item name in the inventory?

Yellow star: Favorite Diamond: Best item in class Red hand: Stolen Blue bolt: Enchanted Green drop: Poisoned

Question: Can you add the ability to sort by the value/weight ratio, or move equipped items to the top?

These features are already included. To sort by V/W, click the VALUE column to toggle it's state. To move equipped items to the top, click the NAME column. If you want a permanent V/W column, copy the skyui.cfg from SkyUI Extras/Configs/ValueWeight Column/ in the downloaded .7z archive to Data/Interface/ in your skyrim install location.

Question: Can I install SkyUI with Wyre Bash?

Yes, that's possible as well. Since version 2.1 SkyUI comes with a bundled BAIN Conversion file that will automatically convert the archive to a BAIN-friendlier format. An installation wizard is supported as well.
