This PR adds back the edits to the generator files (zipper, list-ops) from the outdated list-ops PR (#552) by Bobbi since they have not been included in the recent PR (#623)
The commits have been cherry-picked from #552, but they don't include the edits to the list-ops exercise. Only the edits to the generator files have been transferred to the current PR.
