the w5100 and the Hd 7790 are gcn 2.0 cards, and support for the architecture was only added with the AMD8000 kext I think. which didn't make an appearance until Yosemite. see: techpowerup, https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/radeon-compatibility-guide-ati-amd-graphics-cards.171291/
