Kickstarting the Nodes

All of the pieces are now in place for the nodes to be brought online. The guide up until this point has all been ground work and foundation building. From this point on the structure and frame of the cluster is being built up. If the foundation was built correctly, this will be a simple step and will progress quickly. If any part fails, then you will need to troubleshoot that section to fix that foundation.

The nodes will boot off of the network, ask for a DHCP address provided from the frontend, then PXEBoot into the installer. The installer will grab the configuration file off of the http.cluster.domain system, and begin the installation.

How the nodes PXEboot is completely separate from this guide. There are far too many makes, models, and BIOS versions to list them all here. However, the appropriate information should be located in the boot section of the BIOS.

After the node gets its DHCP address from the frontend, it will display the menu we created. The operator will have 60 seconds to enter the menu with F8. Select "Install compute node" then on the next screen select the installation option. If all goes according to plan, the node will install.
