[WIP] Added Glossary to the Website Repo #317
Conversation
Hi @carolynvs, I have copied and changed the Cloud Native Glossary, and added it to the Contributors website repo. I figured, 'there's no point in reinventing the wheel'. I have added the new glossary terms and kept some of the Cloud Native Glossary terms that I thought might be relevant. Some of the terms might be to technical for what you were wanting, I'll leave that in your court. If this is not what you were wanting, please let me know. Or, if you would like to to add more terms to the glossary let me know. Cheers. Dan |
@carolynvs, Hippie let me know that I did'nt sign-off the commits correctly and that I should have squashed the commits and done a single PR, you live and learn ;). However, Hippie said that the DCO is fine for now. Let me know if you need any changes. |
@carolynvs, BTW, I had a play with ChatGPT for the first time and I found most of the definitions for the glossary. It was amazing how fast it spat them all out! Here's my initial input: Write a glossary of terms related to how the CNCF and its projects are organized that we use in the CNCF and on contribute.cncf.io. ChatGPT response: CNCF: The Cloud Native Computing Foundation, an open-source software foundation dedicated to promoting and advancing the development of cloud-native technology. Kubernetes: An open-source container orchestration system for automating the deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications. Project: A specific software project hosted by the CNCF, such as Kubernetes or Prometheus. Technical Oversight Committee (TOC): The governing body of the CNCF that is responsible for the technical direction of the foundation and its projects. Steering Committee: The governing body of a specific CNCF project that is responsible for the technical direction and decision-making of the project. Special Interest Group (SIG): A group of individuals within a CNCF project that focuses on a specific area of the project, such as the Kubernetes SIG for Storage. Incubating project: A project that is in the process of becoming a fully graduated project within the CNCF. Graduated project: A project that has met certain requirements and has been accepted as a fully supported project within the CNCF. Sandbox project: A project that is in the early stages of development and is not yet ready for graduation. Contributor: An individual or organization that contributes to a CNCF project through code, documentation, or other forms of support. CNCF Member: A company or organization that has joined the CNCF and supports its mission and projects through financial contributions. |
Hi @dankingkong, I'm not sure I understand this PR. The first entry is a wording change in the TAG repo, but why is the Glossary reproduced here? The Glossary has its own repo. Can you explain what you are trying to achieve? |
Hi Catherine,
Sorry, I am new to this contributing space. I was trying to submit a
PR for Issue
# 140 <#140>, creating
a new Glossary of terms. While I was on the website, I noticed some
potential wording changes, and I submitted a PR for those changes and the
Glossary.
I hope that makes sense.

@dankingkong This isn't what was requested in #140. The requirement was a single page or perhaps a small section on the site that only defines relevant terms. This PR copies the entire glossary.cncf.io into this repo. I'm going to close this PR. If you'd like to try again and aren't sure how to proceed, please ask clarifying questions on the original issue. |

Thanks for contributing!
I have copied the Cloud Native Glossary format, added the new glossary to the website repo, and then added the new glossary terms for the Cloud Native Contributors website. I have also made a slight change to the wording in the 'About Us' page.
