Elements of Ensoniq-Orm integration

  • A database of 5,675 ESQ-1 and SQ-80 programs for immediate import to Orm available here.
  • An adaptation allowing import of Ensoniq programs. This is now integrated into standard releases of Orm. Further information below.

ESQ-1 Adaptation

This adaptation should also work with the Ensoniq ESQ-M and Ensoniq SQ-80, which share sysex messages and program and bank structure with the ESQ-1.

Work started on 24 November 2021.

0.88 version uploaded 30 November 2021.

0.90 version uploaded 4 December 2021. Includes better name translation.

0.91 version uploaded 7 December 2021. Extends name translation to, for example, NUL.

0.92 version uploaded 6 December 2024. Removes the need to manually *EXIT* the input buffer between each program load. Now, when a program is loaded the display defaults to programs 1-10 of the Internal bank, and shows the *C* compare message at bottom left. By pressing the Compare button, users can switch between the just-loaded program or the previously selected program. The loaded program can be written to any location in the usual manner: press the Write button and then select a location to overwrite.

Status

  • Syncs MIDI channel with ESQ-1 (with 3.50 operating system)
  • Reads/writes programs from/to ESQ-1
  • Reads Internal bank from ESQ-1
  • Imports from computer
  • Displays program names
  • Adopts new name whenever a duplicate program is loaded
  • Translates program names into ASCII nicely

Not implemented

  • Saving edited names to the ESQ-1

Issues

None known at present.

Limitations

  • ESQ-1: writing to a specific program location is not permitted. The only writable program location is the edit buffer.
  • ESQ-1: writing to or dumping cartridge banks is not permitted. The only transferable bank (in or out) is the Internal bank.
