Event Setup
This HOWTO explains the setup process of a BHNT event at c-base.
There are two timers.
The primary timer is connected to the Matelight via the NixOS Thinkpad laptop and the TV. It is controlled using a keyboard.
- Turn on Matelight.
- Turn on Thinkpad on top of Matelight.
- Turn on TV using front switch.
- Turn on Timer using rear switch.
- Verify that "5:00" is displayed on the Matelight.
The secondary timer was built as a backup, for portability, and as a timer that the presenter can see on the podium. It is stored in the control room. It is controlled using a mini wireless keyboard. The keyboard can be charged using a mini-USB cable.
NB: WiFi credentials are configured in /boot/config.json
and read on boot. Any changes to /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
are overwritten.
- If connected, disconnect primary timer Ethernet cable. The two timers cannot run in parallel.
- Connect Ethernet cable to bottom patch panel port on the pillar behind the presenter.
- Connect power cable.
- Turn on timer using rear switch.
- Verify that "5:00: is displayed on the Matelight.
- Verify that an IP address is displayed on the bottom on the LCD screen.
The secondary timer also hosts the voting system. Is it running automatically but needs to be configured with names for each slot.
NB: You do not need to use the timer functionality in order to use the voting.
- Using the URL listed on the secondary timer's screen, visit
http://IP/config
. - Update the IP address on the voting slide in two places (text and qr code).
- Place the 3D printed mini trophies printed by https://sp4ce.berlin/model/model-bhnt.html on the podium.
