In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, I have developed a dynamic Excel dashboard that serves as a powerful tool for data analysis and visualization. This project offers an interactive and visually appealing platform for users to explore and understand the pandemic's impact. Through slicers, users can filter data by region, time period, and key metrics, allowing for a personalized examination of COVID-19 data. The dashboard incorporates various charts, including line charts, bar graphs, and pie charts, to present trends, distribution, and comparisons, facilitating a comprehensive view of the pandemic's evolving nature.
The objective of this Excel dashboard project is to perform comprehensive COVID-19 data analysis and provide meaningful insights through visualizations with the help of an interactive Excel Dashboard into the pandemic's impact. Excel dashboard must contain slicers and visually appealing charts or tables with appropriate KPIs using which user can interact with multiple timeframes or features in the timeline of Covid-19 Pandemic to get insights.
Raw data used for this analysis was in json format initially. There were two datasets: -
Dataset - 1: - https://data.covid19india.org/v4/min/data.min.json
DataSet - 2: - https://data.covid19india.org/v4/min/timeseries.min.json
In these datasets there were features like states, tested, positive cases, revived, deaths and date. The dataset also includes the 7 day moving average of total number of tested, positive cases, revived, deaths.
- Used Python and its powerful libraries like - Pandas, Numpy, requests, json, etc to extract data from json formnat into csv files.
- Saved files in csv format for further analysis and report generation.
- Conducted detailed analysis on MySQL Workbench.
- Loaded final data into Excel and created an interactive Excel Dashboard with the help of pivot tables, various excel formulas, slicers, themes, charts, formatting, etc
- India experienced a significant number of COVID-19 cases, making it one of the countries with the highest case counts in the world.
- The number of COVID-19-related deaths in India was also substantial.
- Several variants of the virus that causes COVID-19, including the Delta variant, were identified in India.
- The Delta variant was associated with increased transmissibility and raised concerns worldwide.
- India implemented various lockdowns and restrictions at different times to control the spread of the virus.
- These measures had economic and social impacts but were considered necessary to curb the spread of the virus.
- Widespread testing and contact tracing efforts were undertaken to identify and isolate cases.
- Testing centers and mobile testing units were set up across the country.
- Public awareness campaigns were launched to educate people about COVID-19 prevention measures, including mask-wearing and hand hygiene.
- India faced unique challenges in rural areas, including limited healthcare infrastructure and vaccine distribution difficulties.
- India received international assistance, including medical supplies and vaccines, as part of global efforts to combat the pandemic.
This project has successfully implemented several key enhancements, including advanced visualization techniques, predictive analytics, a user-friendly interface, custom reporting, mobile compatibility, and robust data security measures. These improvements ensure that the COVID-19 dashboard remaines a valuable resource for timely and insightful analysis, aiding decision-makers and the public alike. With these features in place, the project has already made a significant impact on tracking and understanding the pandemic. Looking ahead, the future scope of this project could involve further refinements in data visualization, incorporating machine learning for even more accurate predictions, and expanding the dashboard's reach to provide insights into post-pandemic recovery and preparedness for future health crises. Additionally, ongoing maintenance and updates are on track to keep the project relevant and reliable in the long term.
Efficiently transforming an extensive JSON dataset into multiple CSV files using Python presented a notable challenge, though certainly within the realm of feasibility.
- Learned handeling json data.
- Learned some advanced python libraries
- Learned to use SQL for real time analysis
- Got familiar with in depth Excel Functions and tools
In summary, this project successfully addressed the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic through efficient data transformation and insightful visualization techniques. The implemented features, such as real-time data integration, predictive analytics, and user-friendly design, have made this dashboard a valuable resource for decision-makers and the public. Looking ahead, there are opportunities for further improvement and expansion, ensuring its continued relevance and effectiveness in a post-pandemic world.
