This wiki contains information on new features and changes from the original Super Mario Galaxy 2 (commonly referred to as "vanilla SMG2").
For all your GLE informational needs, please view the sidebar on the right of this textbox.
If you have never modded vanilla SMG2 before, please learn how to do that before using the Galaxy Level Engine!!! GLE is not for beginner Galaxy Hackers as it requires more than zero knowledge on modding SMG2.
Below is a list of things that you should already know before using GLE (these are in no particular order):
- How to dump your SMG2 disc using your Wii console*
- How to playtest the game on your Wii console*
- How to open archives
- How to open and edit levels
- Know what zones are, and how they work
- Know what Object Arguments (Obj Arg for short) are and how to use them.
- Know how switches work. (SW_APPEAR, SW_A, SW_B, etc.)
- Know what scenarios are and how to edit scenarios
- What the relation between Scenarios and Stars is
- A basic understanding of the SMG2 Filesystem (so you are able to find where certain files are)
- Know what
BCSV
files are, and how to edit them - Know what
MSBT
files are, and how to edit NPC Dialogue - Know what
MSBF
files are. You do not necessarily need to know how to edit them. - Knowledge on Cutscenes is strongly recommended but technically not required.
*You can use Dolphin Emulator as well, but you should still learn to use a real Wii Console.
And here is a list of things that you don't necessarily need to know (though you may want to learn):
- How to create custom Layouts
- How to import models
- How to import music
- How to take PAD recordings
- How to debug a crash
- How to generate a UseResource
- How to make a sandwich
- SMG/2 Object Database - The most important resource you'll want to have while editing
- Luma's Workshop Wiki - It's got a lot of information about SMG/2 modding on it.
Note: This custom sidebar is for content not yet finished. Please use the above "Pages" dropdown for now.
