WHY are these changes introduced?
Fixes #1336
As pointed out, our dependencies are outdated, and needed to be updated.
WHAT is this pull request doing?
Bringing all of the packages to the latest versions, and replacing deprecated API calls with their latest versions.
This also enables the current future flags, even if they don't affect any existing code, so that new apps will be encouraged to use them by default.
