The Prusa Mendel is secured at the bottom of the frame with some threaded rod and clamps. This arrangement uses little plastic, but uses little plastic. This project aims to create a much more rigid mount for the Z axis smoothrods that also contributes to the Prusa frame rigidlty.

Prusa Stiffened Lower Z Bracket.

The Prusa frame design was optimised by Prusa to use as little plastic as possible. But on my Prusa Mendel and on others there is an inherent weakness on the x plane. Cross bracing the frame of the printer helps this to some degree, but this lower bracket is designed to hold the Z axis smooth rods at an exact 90 degrees and do so in a very stiff fashion. I hope that this will reduce even more the movement in the x-axis and also improve the straigtness of the Z-axis.
