Welcome to the Kuriimu wiki!

Kuriimu is a general purpose game translation toolkit for authors of fan translations.

Backstory

For the longest time, I noticed that fan translation teams around games always formed as closely knit groups. They wrote custom tools that were and still are (mostly) never released, finished their translation, released it, and then often disbanded or slowly fell apart.

When I created Fan Translators Inc. alongside Will The Lion the goal was to promote a more open fan translation community. A way to bring game translators together similar to anime fan-subbing groups. The intention is to have teams stay together after completing a game and then move onto another one.

For that goal, I created Kuriimu as the one stop translation tool that could just handle it all. Individual teams would just need to write an open source plugin for the specific game format they're dealing with and then start translating!

It's also why the team structure on the FTI discord is open, all teams can see each others progress and chat in each others channels. It's to spur a collaborative environment which keeps members together and even working on multiple projects and sharing expertise.

If you have any comments or would like to discuss these ideas, even if you disagree, I'm always available on the FTI discord. Jump in and drop me a line in #general.
