Overview

This tutorial will setup a Hyperledger Fabric (HF) network with following chracteristics:

  • Solo Orderer service
  • Consortium consists of 3 organizations, each organization has:
    • 2 peers: peer0 is anchor peer
    • 1 org admin
  • Two channels as follow:
    • Channel12: consist of Org1 & Org2
    • Channel123: consist of all 3 organizations

This tutorial is based on BYFN tutorial from official Hyperledger Fabric (HF) version 1.4 "Build Your First Network" tutorial.

Make sure you have finish following prerequisites:

Steps

Set current folder to be referred in our tools

export IMAGE_TAG=1.4
export FABRIC_CFG_PATH=$PWD

1. Generates tls certs

rm -rf crypto-config && mkdir crypto-config
../bin/cryptogen generate --config=./crypto-config.yaml

2. Generate network artifacts

Genesis block

rm -rf channel-artifacts && mkdir channel-artifacts
../bin/configtxgen -profile OrdererGenesis -channelID byfn-sys-channel -outputBlock ./channel-artifacts/genesis.block

Channel12 and its anchor peers

export CHANNEL_NAME=channel12
../bin/configtxgen -profile TwoOrgsChannel -outputCreateChannelTx ./channel-artifacts/channel12.tx -channelID $CHANNEL_NAME
../bin/configtxgen -profile TwoOrgsChannel -outputAnchorPeersUpdate ./channel-artifacts/Org1MSPanchors12.tx -channelID $CHANNEL_NAME -asOrg Org1MSP
../bin/configtxgen -profile TwoOrgsChannel -outputAnchorPeersUpdate ./channel-artifacts/Org2MSPanchors12.tx -channelID $CHANNEL_NAME -asOrg Org2MSP

Channel123 and its anchor peers

export CHANNEL_NAME=channel123
../bin/configtxgen -profile ThreeOrgsChannel -outputCreateChannelTx ./channel-artifacts/channel123.tx -channelID $CHANNEL_NAME
../bin/configtxgen -profile ThreeOrgsChannel -outputAnchorPeersUpdate ./channel-artifacts/Org1MSPanchors123.tx -channelID $CHANNEL_NAME -asOrg Org1MSP
../bin/configtxgen -profile ThreeOrgsChannel -outputAnchorPeersUpdate ./channel-artifacts/Org2MSPanchors123.tx -channelID $CHANNEL_NAME -asOrg Org2MSP
../bin/configtxgen -profile ThreeOrgsChannel -outputAnchorPeersUpdate ./channel-artifacts/Org3MSPanchors123.tx -channelID $CHANNEL_NAME -asOrg Org3MSP

then start docker-compose

docker-compose -f docker-compose-cli.yaml up -d && docker ps

You would see following result:

https://github.com/GoldenOwlAsia/go-hyperledger-fabric-tut/blob/master/assets/docker.png?raw=true

3. Initialize networks using CLI

SSH into CLI container

docker exec -it cli bash

Inside the docker, set following variables:

CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org1.example.com:7051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org1MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/peers/peer0.org1.example.com/tls/ca.crt

Create channel12

export CHANNEL_NAME=channel12
peer channel create -o orderer.example.com:7050 -c $CHANNEL_NAME -f ./channel-artifacts/channel12.tx --tls --cafile /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/ordererOrganizations/example.com/orderers/orderer.example.com/msp/tlscacerts/tlsca.example.com-cert.pem

if you cannot create channel, make sure using the right config and all containers are running and reachable

join channel (we are connecting to network as org1)

peer channel join -b channel12.block

now we need to change to org2 to join channel too

CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org2.example.com:9051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org2MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/peers/peer0.org2.example.com/tls/ca.crt
peer channel join -b channel12.block

now we need to assign anchor peer to work in above channel, notice the flag -f ./channel-artifacts/Org1MSPanchors12.tx

CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org1.example.com:7051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org1MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/peers/peer0.org1.example.com/tls/ca.crt
peer channel update -o orderer.example.com:7050 -c $CHANNEL_NAME -f ./channel-artifacts/Org1MSPanchors12.tx --tls --cafile /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/ordererOrganizations/example.com/orderers/orderer.example.com/msp/tlscacerts/tlsca.example.com-cert.pem

now org2 - notice that we need to update some variables

CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org2.example.com:9051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org2MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/peers/peer0.org2.example.com/tls/ca.crt
peer channel update -o orderer.example.com:7050 -c $CHANNEL_NAME -f ./channel-artifacts/Org2MSPanchors12.tx --tls --cafile /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/ordererOrganizations/example.com/orderers/orderer.example.com/msp/tlscacerts/tlsca.example.com-cert.pem

next part is about Chaincode

for org1

CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org1.example.com:7051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org1MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/peers/peer0.org1.example.com/tls/ca.crt
peer chaincode install -n mycc -v 1.0 -l node -p /opt/gopath/src/github.com/chaincode/chaincode_example02/node/

then org2

CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org2.example.com:9051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org2MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/peers/peer0.org2.example.com/tls/ca.crt
peer chaincode install -n mycc -v 1.0 -l node -p /opt/gopath/src/github.com/chaincode/chaincode_example02/node/

then instantiate chaincode on Orderer (no need to change env variables because we only call to orderer)

peer chaincode instantiate -o orderer.example.com:7050 --tls --cafile /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/ordererOrganizations/example.com/orderers/orderer.example.com/msp/tlscacerts/tlsca.example.com-cert.pem -C $CHANNEL_NAME -n mycc -l node -v 1.0 -c '{"Args":["init","a", "100", "b","200"]}' -P "AND ('Org1MSP.peer','Org2MSP.peer')"

Validate the setup

Test by querying data from network

peer chaincode query -C $CHANNEL_NAME -n mycc -c '{"Args":["query","a"]}'

should return 100 and then invoke a transaction

peer chaincode invoke -o orderer.example.com:7050 --tls true --cafile /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/ordererOrganizations/example.com/orderers/orderer.example.com/msp/tlscacerts/tlsca.example.com-cert.pem -C $CHANNEL_NAME -n mycc --peerAddresses peer0.org1.example.com:7051 --tlsRootCertFiles /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/peers/peer0.org1.example.com/tls/ca.crt --peerAddresses peer0.org2.example.com:9051 --tlsRootCertFiles /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/peers/peer0.org2.example.com/tls/ca.crt -c '{"Args":["invoke","a","b","10"]}'

now query again should return 90

peer chaincode query -C $CHANNEL_NAME -n mycc -c '{"Args":["query","a"]}'

We have done the channel12, next is channel123

Create channel123

go back to Org1 settings

CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org1.example.com:7051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org1MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/peers/peer0.org1.example.com/tls/ca.crt

create channel

export CHANNEL_NAME=channel123
peer channel create -o orderer.example.com:7050 -c $CHANNEL_NAME -f ./channel-artifacts/channel123.tx --tls --cafile /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/ordererOrganizations/example.com/orderers/orderer.example.com/msp/tlscacerts/tlsca.example.com-cert.pem

if you cannot create channel, make sure using the right config and all containers are running and reachable

join channel (we are connecting to network as org1)

peer channel join -b channel123.block

now we need to change to org2 to join channel too

CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org2.example.com:9051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org2MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/peers/peer0.org2.example.com/tls/ca.crt
peer channel join -b channel123.block

because we have Org3 here, we need peer0 of Org3 to join, remember to change the port

CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org3.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org3.example.com:11051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org3MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org3.example.com/peers/peer0.org3.example.com/tls/ca.crt
peer channel join -b channel123.block

and we have got 3 orgs in channel123 nicely!

now we need to assign anchor peer to work in above channel, notice the flag -f ./channel-artifacts/Org1MSPanchors123.tx

CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org1.example.com:7051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org1MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/peers/peer0.org1.example.com/tls/ca.crt
peer channel update -o orderer.example.com:7050 -c $CHANNEL_NAME -f ./channel-artifacts/Org1MSPanchors123.tx --tls --cafile /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/ordererOrganizations/example.com/orderers/orderer.example.com/msp/tlscacerts/tlsca.example.com-cert.pem

now org2 - notice that we need to update some variables

CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org2.example.com:9051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org2MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/peers/peer0.org2.example.com/tls/ca.crt
peer channel update -o orderer.example.com:7050 -c $CHANNEL_NAME -f ./channel-artifacts/Org2MSPanchors123.tx --tls --cafile /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/ordererOrganizations/example.com/orderers/orderer.example.com/msp/tlscacerts/tlsca.example.com-cert.pem
```bash
and lastly org3
```bash
CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org3.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org3.example.com:11051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org3MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org3.example.com/peers/peer0.org3.example.com/tls/ca.crt
peer channel update -o orderer.example.com:7050 -c $CHANNEL_NAME -f ./channel-artifacts/Org3MSPanchors123.tx --tls --cafile /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/ordererOrganizations/example.com/orderers/orderer.example.com/msp/tlscacerts/tlsca.example.com-cert.pem

Next part is about Chaincode (because we have installed chaincode for org1 and org2 in channel12 so it will throw errors here due to the same chaincode existed, just ignore it) since the chaincode differentiate by name, we will use different name as mycc123 even though the chaincodes are actually the same for org1

export CHANNEL_NAME=channel123
CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org1.example.com:7051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org1MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/peers/peer0.org1.example.com/tls/ca.crt
peer chaincode install -n mycc123 -v 1.0 -l node -p /opt/gopath/src/github.com/chaincode/chaincode_example02/node/

then org2

CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org2.example.com:9051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org2MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/peers/peer0.org2.example.com/tls/ca.crt
peer chaincode install -n mycc123 -v 1.0 -l node -p /opt/gopath/src/github.com/chaincode/chaincode_example02/node/

and org3

CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org3.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org3.example.com:11051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org3MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org3.example.com/peers/peer0.org3.example.com/tls/ca.crt
peer chaincode install -n mycc123 -v 1.0 -l node -p /opt/gopath/src/github.com/chaincode/chaincode_example02/node/

then instantiate chaincode on Orderer (no need to change env variables because we only call to orderer)

peer chaincode instantiate -o orderer.example.com:7050 --tls --cafile /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/ordererOrganizations/example.com/orderers/orderer.example.com/msp/tlscacerts/tlsca.example.com-cert.pem -C $CHANNEL_NAME -n mycc123 -l node -v 1.0 -c '{"Args":["init","a", "100", "b","200"]}' -P "AND ('Org1MSP.peer','Org2MSP.peer', 'Org3MSP.peer')"

4. Query data

first to query from Org1 point of view

CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org1.example.com:7051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org1MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/peers/peer0.org1.example.com/tls/ca.crt

first we get the channel12 data

peer chaincode query -C channel12 -n mycc -c '{"Args":["query","a"]}'

and we get the channel123 data

peer chaincode query -C channel123 -n mycc123 -c '{"Args":["query","a"]}'

you can see that they return different value even thought the query is the same, the reason is because 2 channels hold different ledgers

they should both succeed. Then we try to invoke a change in channel12

peer chaincode invoke -o orderer.example.com:7050 --tls true --cafile /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/ordererOrganizations/example.com/orderers/orderer.example.com/msp/tlscacerts/tlsca.example.com-cert.pem -C channel12 -n mycc --peerAddresses peer0.org1.example.com:7051 --tlsRootCertFiles /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/peers/peer0.org1.example.com/tls/ca.crt --peerAddresses peer0.org2.example.com:9051 --tlsRootCertFiles /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/peers/peer0.org2.example.com/tls/ca.crt -c '{"Args":["invoke","a","b","10"]}'

and another invoke for channel123 (notice the change in parameters)

peer chaincode invoke -o orderer.example.com:7050 --tls true --cafile /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/ordererOrganizations/example.com/orderers/orderer.example.com/msp/tlscacerts/tlsca.example.com-cert.pem -C channel123 -n mycc123 --peerAddresses peer0.org1.example.com:7051 --tlsRootCertFiles /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/peers/peer0.org1.example.com/tls/ca.crt --peerAddresses peer0.org2.example.com:9051 --tlsRootCertFiles /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/peers/peer0.org2.example.com/tls/ca.crt --peerAddresses peer0.org3.example.com:11051 --tlsRootCertFiles /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org3.example.com/peers/peer0.org3.example.com/tls/ca.crt -c '{"Args":["invoke","a","b","10"]}'

now let's check the result after the invoke

peer chaincode query -C channel12 -n mycc -c '{"Args":["query","a"]}'
peer chaincode query -C channel123 -n mycc123 -c '{"Args":["query","a"]}'

the last test is the most important: Org3 should be able to access only channel123 and not channel12 first, let's switch context

CORE_PEER_MSPCONFIGPATH=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org3.example.com/users/[email protected]/msp
CORE_PEER_ADDRESS=peer0.org3.example.com:11051
CORE_PEER_LOCALMSPID="Org3MSP"
CORE_PEER_TLS_ROOTCERT_FILE=/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org3.example.com/peers/peer0.org3.example.com/tls/ca.crt

then attempt to query both channels

peer chaincode query -C channel123 -n mycc123 -c '{"Args":["query","a"]}'
peer chaincode query -C channel12 -n mycc -c '{"Args":["query","a"]}'

we can see that for channel123 it returns a number, while channel12 it returns access denied

next, try to trigger an invoke from Org3

peer chaincode invoke -o orderer.example.com:7050 --tls true --cafile /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/ordererOrganizations/example.com/orderers/orderer.example.com/msp/tlscacerts/tlsca.example.com-cert.pem -C channel123 -n mycc123 --peerAddresses peer0.org1.example.com:7051 --tlsRootCertFiles /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org1.example.com/peers/peer0.org1.example.com/tls/ca.crt --peerAddresses peer0.org2.example.com:9051 --tlsRootCertFiles /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org2.example.com/peers/peer0.org2.example.com/tls/ca.crt --peerAddresses peer0.org3.example.com:11051 --tlsRootCertFiles /opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric/peer/crypto/peerOrganizations/org3.example.com/peers/peer0.org3.example.com/tls/ca.crt -c '{"Args":["invoke","a","b","10"]}'

and query

peer chaincode query -C channel123 -n mycc123 -c '{"Args":["query","a"]}'

the result is obviously changed

5. AWS setup

Refer to aws-deployment folder. The difference is that we will not use docker bridge network mode and need to support Elastic IPs into docker containers.

To reset everything

In case you did something wrong and want to start over, run the below lines to clean every up

docker-compose -f docker-compose-cli.yaml down
docker rm -f $(docker ps -aq)
docker rmi -f $(docker images | grep fabcar | awk '{print $3}')
docker volume prune
