Core metadata fields

For each contribution that is submitted via the Contribution Tool, a basic set of core metadata needs to be provided. These core metadata are publicly visible on the main page of the Contribution Tool, except for the 'cost (total)' field and the 'cost (description)' field. In the table below, each core metadata field is described in more detail.

Title Title of the contribution. text (string)
Year Year in which the contribution was submitted. year
Country Country that submits the contribution. It is not (yet) possible to enter multiple countries. If a contributions is an international collaboration, please enter the country that administers the project. Alternatively, each country could submit a sub-part of the collaborative project as a separate contribution. country
VCC Virtual Competency Centre whose competence corresponds to the contribution. The value in this field is used by the CIO to assign reviewers with the adequate expertise to review this particular contribution. If the contribution concerns the time invested in a Working Group (e.g. by Working Group Chairs), choose 'Working Group'. If the contribution concerns DARIAH Coordination in general (e.g. the work of VCC Chairs, participation in one of the central bodies, etc.), choose 'Coordination'. vcc
Type Contributions break down into two main categories – services and activities – each of which is further subdivided into specific types. The main difference between the two categories is that services are iterative or continuous actions, while activities have a unique or one-time character. typeContribution (only types marked in green are currently valid)
Description Full-text description of the contribution. text (markdown)
cost (total) The total cost in Euro's incurred to create the contribution (see page 38 of De Leeuw et al. 2017) . This field is not publicly visible, but can only be seen by the creator of a contribution record as well as by the NC of the country that submits the particular contribution. number

contact person Full name of the person who acts as primary point of contact for the contribution. The contact person may be different from the creator of the contribution. text (string)
contact email One or more email addresses via which the contact person can be contacted. email
Contribution url One or more urls that point directly to the contribution online (e.g. to a portal, database, tool, etc.). url
Academic url One or more urls that are central to the contribution (e.g. project page, academic publications, etc.) url

Disciplines Disciplines associated with the contribution. This is an open list and additional disciplines may be added if none of the values in the list fit the contribution. Please consider the alternatives carefully before adding a new values and, if really necessary, add values in English only. discipline
Keywords Keywords associated with the contribution. This is an open list. Add new keywords (in English) freely. keyword
editors The creator may assign an additional person to a particular contribution. The editor can modify the contribution record as well as add a self-assessment to the contribution. users registered in the Contribution Tool
