Missile silo needs to be reworked. #79608
Comments
It could use a much bigger fence around it. |
all the missile silos in the new england region were decommissioned well over half a century ago. some still exist and are 'accessible', but they are no longer actively used locations for basically any purpose. so while there could be some small number of silos in the game, they should have nothing of interest in them. maybe at best one of them might be intact enough to be worth living in. |
If anyone is ever interested here are some references! https://titanmissilemuseum.org/museum/map/ https://www.luxerealtyphotography.com/titan-missile-site-for-sale Apparently also prone to flooding and trapping gasses, if not straight up buried in the decommissioning processes. https://www.businessinsider.com/i-renovated-a-missile-silo-airbnb-regrets-2024-11 |
I remember when labs had a turret in half the rooms that were near instant death. I quickly learned to always peek corners in high value places. Newer players or more casual players probably wouldn't be so careful or could even fumble into turret range. I do support the removal of the outside turrets (a little bit). Putting a turret on the inside like labs would probably be more appropriate. It is still a missile silo and should have the defenses. I am also thinking that a missile silo just along the road between two towns is a bit too visible for a military installation. Putting it down a dirt road a little ways could also help here. |
Describe the bug
The missile silo is a random game over death trap unless you have meta knowledge of the fact so you can avoid it.
The facility I encountered was placed in a bend of a road, with the back of the facility towards the direction my character was traveling in a car. Nothing seen on approach. Pass the side of the building and reach the front side, however, and the twin CROWS open fire...

Steps to reproduce
Expected behavior
Facilities shouldn't assault all passers by. Defenses should defend the facilities, and that should be done only when the facilities are breached. If there's a pressing need to have active defenses on the outside of facilities, the facility grounds should be expanded so they cover the danger area, and probably be lined by a fence (not a tiny fence well inside of the death zone).

Additional context
I suspected this would happen and took that route to investigate if it would. Killed the game and reloaded the previous save. The supplied save is from a later time, and thus a fair bit away from the silo. However, I don't think the save adds anything, as the screen shot should make the issue clear if you check the layout of the facility.
