Problem

Launching a website should be a meaningful milestone, but users often launch accidentally without understanding why or how. This leads to confusion, artificially inflates the launch rate as a vanity metric, misses an opportunity to guide users through an important transition from building to publishing.

Solution

Create an intentional launch experience by consolidating launch buttons into a single, clear action and adding a guided confirmation dialog that explains benefits and upgrade options.

This includes:

  • Move the "Launch site" button to the WordPress admin bar.
  • Add a modal with clear messaging about what launching means and its benefits, when selecting the launch button.
  • Strategically integrate upgrade opportunities within the launch modal.
  • Remove the “Launch” button from wordpress.com/view/$domain.

User Impact Statement

We've made it crystal clear when you're taking your site live, so you can confidently share your work with the world when the moment feels right. Once launched, your site will be discoverable through search engines and ready to share with your audience.
