Edit Windows Metrics and Fonts

1. Enable/Disable lock toggle

Make it checked to make WinPaletter apply changes to metrics and fonts

2. Optional Toolbar buttons

1. Open from WinPaletter theme

This will copy preferences from a WinPaletter theme file into current open theme

2. Open from Visual styles file

This will copy preferences from a Windows theme file (.theme or .msstyles) into current open theme

3. Open from Current applied one

This will copy preferences from current metrics and fonts settings into current open theme (looks like an undo)

4. Open from Default Windows

This will copy preferences from default Windows theme into current open theme

3. Parts

You can modify 5 aspects in metrics and fonts: titlebars, icons, menus, fonts substitution and miscellaneous

1. Titlebars

1. Fonts

  • You can change fonts of window and tool window

  • Changing these fonts requires logoff and logon

  • Updated versions of Windows 11 won't change title bar font due to bug in Windows itself (you can change its size only)

  • You can change titlebar height, borders, padding and classic buttons width

2. Icons

1. Font

You can change icons labels font

2. Spacing

You can change desktop icons spacing (horizontal and vertical coordinates)

You can change desktop icons size

4. Shell icons sizes (for Windows XP)

You can change shell icons size and small shell icons size (you can see its effects in Windows open/save dialogs and explorer with small icons)

  • Showing effects of previous values requires Explorer Restart

  • It contains a check box to control "Single bit per pixel font"

5. Fonts substitutes

  • Some applications & control Panel applets use •MS Shell Dlg" font. There is a registry trick that substitutes these fonts by other fonts. They are originally substituted by "Microsoft Sans Serif" and "Tahoma".

  • To return to default in Windows 7 & 8.1: press on undo buttons below and logoff and re-logon your Windows, then return to WinPaletter and reload "Default Windows" from the button above, apply and logoff

  • You must be cautious in Windows 1 1 as changing "Segoe IJI" font may cause instability in start menu and search (due to bug in Windows itself)

  • Only start menu of Windows 10 cannot be changed. It will stay with "Segoe Ul" even if it is substituted correctly

  • You must logoff and logon to apply the effect of substitution

4. Actions

  1. Load into current theme: it will load current metrics and fonts preferences into current open WinPaletter theme, and will close this form so you can continue modifying other Windows aspects and finally press on Apply on main form to apply all aspects in the open theme.

  2. Quick apply: it will apply current metrics and fonts preferences instantly to test their real effects on system.

  3. Cancel: it will close this form without loading any modification made to metrics and fonts

  1. Please Logoff and Logon after setting Metrics and Fonts with a high DPI
