How do I register .pyw

I'd just like to add syntax highlighting for *.pyw files. This will be the same as python. What is the easiest way to do this?

You can create a custom syntax in your configuration directory (~/.config/micro/syntax/pyw.yaml) and include the rules from the built-in Python syntax with include directive:

filetype: python
detect:
    filename: "\\.pyw$"
rules:
    - include: python

The built-in Python syntax should probably be updated to detect .pyw file extension as those are relatively common but this works as a workaround until that happens.

It's loading the new yaml file, but syntax highlighting is not happening.

Weird, it works for me. You could try copying the rules from https://github.com/zyedidia/micro/blob/master/runtime/syntax/python3.yaml in case it's a bug in the include directive.

It doesn't work for me either. That is expected: both the built-in and the custom syntax file have filetype: python, and custom syntax files always have higher priority, so include: python in the custom file means including itself, not the built-in file.

If it works for you, that is not expected.

Ah that explains it, it must have only worked for me because I also have a slightly customized ~/.config/micro/syntax/python.yaml with filetype: python.

I got it to work by setting filetype: pythonw
