Better way of setting default java properties

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Some libraries that are used within API ML depend on default Java properties like javax.net.ssl.keyStore. These are set programmatically during application startup. This can produce unexpected behavior, e.g. objects using default values for a certain time, not changing default values under certain conditions.

Describe the solution you'd like
Find a better way to override default properties. It could be done via the start script.
